Street Art in London

This project was originally inspired by my interest in Bansky and I proposed this idea to my friend who found it very interesting. We were originally planning to do 'The evolution of graffiti' but this seemed rather a broad topic and one which needed a lot of research. We then tried to narrow it down, to 'Graffiti in London. However Graffiti didn't quite seem to fit our idea of what we wanted to explore. That is when we came up with the idea of 'Street Art in London'. The first thing we did was to create the title screen/opening. We use a paint can simulator called Total Graffiti and filmed the screen using an application called camtasia as I wrote out the title . I edited out the unwanted sections and sped up the clip using iMovie. The next step was to find and record examples of Street Art. We both looked through two books: one by Bansky called 'Wall and Piece' and an other called 'London Street Art anthology' to get an idea of what we were looking for. We also used an app on IPod touch called Street Art in London to find and track existing examples of street art. We identified three main areas: South of Regents Park (famous for two Banskys as well as various examples of Space invaders work), Leake Street tunnel (a 300m long legal graffiti tunnel) and Brick Lane (a hotspot for various types of Street Art). We used a Lumix camera and an iPod touch equipped with TimeLapse pro, a stop motion app. The editing and arranging of these photos was done on iMovie. We also watched various sections of Bansky's film-Exit through the Gift Shop, from which we used three 2-4 second extracts.
